slow manifesto.
Are you always rushing to get to somewhere, to do something?
Undeniably, we live in a world obsessed with speed and everything seems to be on a stopwatch. We used to walk, now we speed walk; we used to read and now we speed read; we used to go on dates, and now we speed date.
How did 'fast' become the default pace of life?
Is it possible to slow down?
I am interested in how physical space and its ambience can slow people down. Every spatial elements such as light, sound, form, and colours, could provoke one’s senses to slow down, to be conscious and to interact with its surrounding. Our senses are often numb when we are rushing. We often look, but never really see and embrace.
This research project will explore design solutions, in terms of spatial elements, that slow people down.
Objectives:
-
To study about the Slow Movement.
-
To identify the causes of fast living.
-
To analyse people's lifestyle, especially in big cities.
-
To identify and analyse the spatial elements that slow people down.
-
To analyse how slow elements are incorporated into spatial design and architecture.
